We are about to enter the last year of our three-year lease of the Blockhouse School property from the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL).
The lease conditions stipulate that if we reach enough of our milestones, MODL Council will consider conveyance of the property to SSSVC.
Over the last two years, we have had both triumphs and disappointments. We have learned much about situational constraints, as well as some potential opportunities.
It is time to refine the vision for the project, given these constraints and opportunities, and to develop an organization that can effectively move the project forward.
The board of directors needs to be expanded and structured for the next stage of the project, with operational and working board members, and active working committees. We need people who have experience with, and can take leadership in:
- program planning and fundraising
- project administration
- volunteer recruitment and coordination
- not-for-profit governance
- bookkeeping or accounting
- municipal relations, community development
- communication, public relations
- construction, engineering
- horticulture, food production
- event organizing, etc.
The project can only be a reflection of the people involved, in both quality and quantity. Our public events have been very well attended. However, the number of people actively involved and taking leadership needs to increase substantially if the project is to move forward.
With our AGM coming up on April 14, now is the time to re-envision and add new perspectives to present to the membership.
