New Board of Directors
Our new board of directors met for the first time on April 23. We are very pleased to have an expanded team. Our new board members have a wealth of career and volunteer experience working with non-profits, for-profits, community development, municipalities, finance, art, technology, management and more, and are enthusiastic about the Blockhouse School Project and its potential future.
Gail Tuttle is our new secretary. Gail is an artist and writer retiring to Mahone Bay after most recently being director of Sir Wilfred Grenfell College Art Gallery at Memorial University.
David Cameron remains as chair, working toward the successful completion of our three year lease and conveyance of the property, along with the many other things he does day to day to keep things going. His long interest and experience in resource recovery and sustainability is a driving force behind the project.
Fine carpenter and artist Lloyd Klassen also remains on the board. He’ll be coordinating Friday afternoon work parties starting May 9.
Heather Squires has a background in project management, community work, governance and evaluation. She is also a cheesemaker and co-owns Sweetwood Farm in Blockhouse.
Mykal Koloff is very interested in sustainable building, permaculture and making things happen at the school.
David Young is a sound technician and instrument repair guy, and a tenant at the school. His ongoing presence and skill at figuring things out have been invaluable to the project over the last two years.
Jason Remai is a photographer and creative force, and we look forward to his contributions after he recovers from the birth of his son on the very day of our first board meeting!
*An earlier version of this post wrongly attributed work to Krystle that another artist had done. Many apologies for the error!
