Here’s a preliminary and ever-changing list of things we will be wanting for retrofitting the building, for starting the permaculture gardens, for the office and for other projects. Contact an appropriate board member if you have any questions.
Picnic tables
Large garbage bins with lids
Trees and Shrubs – that can be planted in the spring. Contact Heather.
Organic material for composting and mulch: spoiled hay & good or spoiled straw bales, manure & wood chips, sawdust, coffee grounds. Contact Heather: email hidden; JavaScript is required, or David: email hidden; JavaScript is required
Wood chips
Vacuum cleaner/Shop Vac – the more heavy-duty the better.
Fire Certified Steel Doors with frames, with certification mark on door, size 34″ wide x 80″ or 81″ high, certified for a 1-hour burn. We need at least 3. Contact David.
Large plastic tubs for fetching messy things like chicken manure. We don’t necessarily need lids for them.
Office equipment: computer, phones, office chairs
Dead tree parts: rotten logs and old lumber (to bury in hugelkultur beds), bags of leaves, brush, branches, prunings, wood chips (did we say wood chips?) etc.
Kitchen items: See separate page for kitchen items needed
Containers: 5 gal buckets, especially with lids, 10 & 20 & 50 gal drums, metal or plastic (with tops if possible)
Gardening: wheel barrows, shovels, rakes, garden forks, hand tools
Metal items: old (not leaking) hot water tanks, cast iron radiators
Pipe: iron & copper pipe & fittings, plastic pipe, all sizes – e.g. pvc pipe and fittings
Sewing machines (preferably in working order), heavy duty sewing machine
Balsam Fir Trees
Our permaculture design includes creating an evergreen windbreak at the northwest corner of the property. Ideally we’d like those evergreens to be edible pine nut trees, but they will take time to get established. In the meantime, Balsam Fir will do the job. They’re fast-growing and will shelter the more valuable young nut trees.
Got a truck or trailer?
- We get offers of supplies like manure and woodchips that just need to be picked up. Contact Heather or David for details.
- We sometimes get other offers of other stuff that only requires pickup, so if you can offer this assistance, let us know.
